  Hair style for face shapes
Oval Face Shape: are the most versatile face. Many different styles will work for you, but no matter the length of your cut, you'll look best with layers near your cheekbones, lips or chin -- basically whatever feature you want to highlight. The following photo galleries illustrate the best and worst haircuts for your face shape. This photo is perfect for oval face shapes because the cut shows off the cheekbones and chin. The spike effect is downplayed, too much spike is NOT good on an oval face shape. It gives the illusion of length.

Square Face Shape: This face is best recognized as having a strong, square jaw line and wider, fuller face. The Forehead, cheekbones and jaw line are all about equal width. Choose hairstyles that part to the side to offset the fullness of the face and add softness. Styles that are longer than the jaw line, or adding a bit of height at the crown will elongate the face.

Round Face Shapes: Your goal is to create less volume around the face. You also want to minimize the appearance of roundness. Styles that are flattering and stylish: Try cuts that fall just below the chin. Soft, graduated layers are a great bet because they make your face appear slimmer and tend to remove bulk and weight from the sides. Consider wispy and tapered ends. These de-emphasize the roundness of your face. Bangs are flattering, but keep them long or sideswept.

Avoid: One-length, blunt cuts if you have short hair. Curly, short hair is also a no-no. These only emphasize your roundness.

Long Face Shape: Long faces are described as oblong- long and narrow. The goal with this face shape is to create the illusion of more width by adding fullness at the sides and having a smooth top with bangs of some sort. Curls and waves can also add width to your face and make it appear more oval.

Avoid: extremely long, straight styles, one-length cuts, short layers that add volume in the crown area and styles without bangs as these will make your long face much more pronounced.

Heart Face Shape: The heart-shaped face is wide in the eye and cheekbone area with a narrow or pointy chin. Many heart-shaped faces also have a high forehead.

For long hair styles, add long, wavy layers around your cheekbones that fall in the neck area. For shorter hair, add top layers that are long and soft. Side-swept bangs are a great technique to lessen the width and height of the forehead area.

Avoid: blunt-cut bangs, short hair, ponytails and choppy layers. Subtle layering is much more flattering
